DUBLIN: The River Liffey, which runs through Joyce's works as much as it runs through Dublin, has been somewhat cleaned up in recent years, though one day while we were there it smelled strongly of sewage. Not a place to go fishing or swimming, but picturesque in the sunset as we look toward the Ha'penny Bridge, where pedestrians used to be charged a halfpence coin to cross.
