Brú na Bóinne: Not far north of Dublin, is the area known as Brú na Bóinne--The Bend in the Boyne River. We stayed in a B&B outside the village of Slane to visit the nearby prehistoric mounds, the largest collection of such mounds in Ireland. The three main sites are Dowth, Newgrange, and Dowth. Looking for Dowth Mound (obscurely marked and not strictly speaking open to the public) we stumbled at sunset on the ruins of the old chapel and graveyard at Dowth Castle.
