ANKARA: The night train from Ankara to Istanbul is cheaper by far than a nice hotel room, and reasonably comfortable as these things go; but neither of us managed to get much sleep in the rocking train inside the bunks formed when the beds were unfolded. Other people seem to love it. This is the only long-distance train recommended for travelers in Turkey. The hilly geography of the country makes buses far more practical. Internal air travel is expensive and inconvenient.
